Red Fawn Janis, an Olglala Lakota from Pine Ridge, South Dakota, carries the name Čante Wašte Win (Good Hearted Woman). Raised by her mother TroyLynn Yellow Wood (Oglala Lakota and Shaheila), Red Fawn learned the importance of community, traditions and human and animal rights at an early age. She has stood against injustices affecting the Native community, land and animal rights, and water protection. Red Fawn is a dedicated community organizer and has focused her work on supporting, youth, elders and is a passionate advocate and voice for our four legged relatives the Pte Oyate (Buffalo Nation), Mato (Bear) and Sungmanitu (wolf) who face threats from the destruction and encroachment of their lands. She works to protect the natural land resources that are crucial for their survival. Walking the Red Road of recovery, Red Fawn is committed to her spiritual Lakota roots, striving to preserve and pass down her traditions and teachings to future generations.
